A Song For Peace In India

Imagine there's no heaven,
it's easy of you try,
No hell below us,
above us only sky,
Imagine all the people,
Living for today......

Profound words from the song 'Imagine' written and sung by the legendary John Lennon who was and still is a symbol for peace. Checkout the complete lyrics of this song.

The recent rape case in Delhi brought to mind this very song as I pondered over the degrading status of humanity in this country. Too much has been written about it, too much has been discussed and too much has been said. Not only the Government but the people also have to take up individual responsibility of this situation at hand. Can people rise up to this occasion?

Here's a question to all those who are reading this post,

What are the 3 steps that you, both as a male as well as a female, are taking on an individual basis to safeguard and protect the modesty of the women in your families and your circle?

Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. Let us share insight to overcome this situation and  convert our individual responsibilities into collective responsibility.

  2. I think what I do proactively is to be try to very careful and alert; object verbally or physically if needed, and raise a ruckus when faced with such a situation (disregarding the fact that people think objecting is just calling attention to and increasing one's humiliation); and spare no effort or opportunity of speaking up on this to people.

  3. Jay as you asked for three ways, here's my views-
Firstly and most importantly we seriously need to guide the sons of our family. It should be made clear to them from every aspect that a woman is no way weaker than a man and needs utmost respect as she has the divine power of giving birth to another human being!
Secondly, I think sex is still a taboo in our society. There's a myth of purity associated with virginity. I don't know if I am correct, but I guess clear communications about sex might play a major role in destructing the feeling of doing something great (manly?)in raping a woman.
And thirdly, nothing is going to change rapidly. This will definitely take a lot of time to induce security of women in India but till then I think its better to keep a pepper or chilly spray or red chilly powder or get trained in self defense skills as safety measures.

    1. Yes, you have correctly pointed out the steps in proper hierarchy of impact.
This is a root cause which needs to be eradicated from the ground level. I hope you do carry a spray with you. Thanks for sharing your opinions and thoughts Trisha. :)

  5. Firstly I would like to appreciate your effort to communicate on such sensible topic. I would like to give just one small suggestion which i got from my elder loving cousin during my late school days that girls should always keep 2 things in their wallet i.e. a nail cutter or any sharp thing like portable safe knife and deodorant or some spray. The other thing is that stay alert every time specially when you travel.. keep mobile handy and inform atleast 1/2 person about our travel plan or schedule. Thank you so much for share.

  9. Nice post... :)
Self defence with sprays, tasers etc. is good only in discussions; when it comes to an actual situation there are rare chances one might use them effectively.Martial arts in schools is a good suggestion.Exuding confidence and not showing even an iota of fear can slow down the wrong-doers and make them think twice. The government in its side can do a lot more to bring about a societal change; it could stop selling cheap liquor, make public transports and roads safe even at night and weed out existing culprits!

Yes, you have correctly stated valid points, even I agree, some form of self defense should be taught and this situation calls for societal changes on a large scale.

  10. Nice post. I think everyone has to be alert all the time irrespective of being a girl or boy, you have to alert. Not everyone is a devil out here. Being a guy, it has to be my responsibility to alert police if I see anything suspicious. Girls should learn self defense.
